For your initial post, consider the importance of education and the prevention of SIDS. Answer the following questions:

In my country, prenatal and postnatal classes are often held to educate mothers and fathers of newborns. Many parents visit here, so I would like to take this opportunity to educate them about the dangers of SDIS and how to prevent it.


3. What information do you feel like is the most important to share and why?

I want to educate parents about what causes SIDS and how to prevent it. So that they can be educated about SIDS and prevent it as much as possible when raising a baby.

Although the cause of SIDS is often unknown, it has been linked to breathing and sleep. Most babies who die of SIDS have cold-like symptoms, sleeping on their stomach or heating, causing breathing problems. "Since initiating the “Back to Sleep” campaign in 1994 advising parents to place babies to sleep on their backs, the incidence of SIDS has reduced more than 50%" (University of the People, n.d., p.22).

Babies are most likely to die from SIDS during the first two to three months of life when special attention should be given to:
・Avoid soft bedding and stuffed animals that can block your baby's airways
・Do not overdress
・Do not cover the baby's head
・Breastfeed until 6 months if possible (University of the People, n.d.)
・The use of pacifiers reduces the risk of SIDS (University of the People, n.d.)
