I assume I've become the top manager of a company and describe each part of the SMART technique -- Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time-bound – providing relevant details about the goal for each component of the goal-setting process in this assignment. I am working at a construction company now, so I established a SMART goal supposing I became an owner of a company that mainly proposes and constructs exteriors.
① S - Specific goal
To made a specific goal, The video taught us that we need to contain 5 of W, Who, What, When, Where, and Why(Curriculum Wadhwani, 2013). First, Who? Me and my colleagues. Second, What? Grow into the largest company in this field. Third, When? Within 15 years or 20 years at the latest. Forth, Where? In Japan. Lastly, Why? To expand the exterior industry further in my country. Because there is no company representing the exterior in Japan despite being an area of high customer interest, few innovative and exciting exteriors like overseas.
②M - Measurable
We need to know where the finish line I mean, the point of saying we have completed the goal based on a specific number or by answering a simple question(Curriculum Wadhwani, 2013). I set my finish line as the No.1 domestic market share.
③A - Attainable
It is important to set an attainable goal because setting unattainable goals can reduce motivation and lead to loss of purpose(Curriculum Wadhwani, 2013). I will require all my design staff to share the new idea at least 1 in a month. I will ask every sales staff to sign at least one contract per month, paying attention to increasing their name recognition. The construction staff will be given the number of cases usually constructed in one month +1 case.
④R - Realistic
I set my finish line as the No.1 domestic market share. We need to achieve the highest sales amount and salary in the industry. If my company is a representative company in the field, we need to keep creating something new to increase corporate value further, and I have to pay the most salary to staff. Then general customers must be recognized "the exterior is about my company."
⑤T - Time-bound
I set my goal as growing into the largest company in this field within 15 years or within 20 years at the latest. In Japan, the most common time to rebuild a general house is 25 to 30 years when the family structure changes, and it is thought that the life span is about that. Therefore, I want to make the exterior industry more widespread and offer more choices and values when the next generation builds a house.
In conclusion, I set a goal for my company as growing into the largest company in the exterior field of Japan with my colleagues within 15 years or 20 years at the latest, to expand the exterior industry further and offer more choices and values when the next generation builds a house. I have things that I want to make, and customers have things they want. So I thought that matching them and finding a companion who agreed with them would lead to success.
