Setting Goal and Time Management

Goal-setting is an important strategy to manage our time and stay on track with our college class and succeed in our work after we graduate. First of all, time management means managing ourselves, recognizing what we need, deciding how to get what we need, and then efficiently and effectively getting it. (n.d., 2015) It is very important to know what we want to do or achieve through our activity. Almost all people are feeling busy, and some people go about they can lay hands-on without applying priority. It is an inefficient way. Additionally, it is easy to fail without understanding which element needs how much time, and how it can be accomplished.

I want to introduce you guys who struggle with time management especially students. Actually, her speech changed my sights of view.

I have an experience that I could not accomplish my goal when I was a high school student. I had been preparing for an English examination taking over a half year. I needed to gain expand my vocabulary extremely to pass the exam. Therefore, I focused on memorizing as many as English words. I expended about 80 percent of the study time on memorizing and I spent only a few hours on listening practice even though the listening questions account for half of the English test. As the result, I scored almost perfect in vocabulary questions, but I only got half the points in listening questions and could not pass the test. I failed to manage time strategically. I did not look at the whole of my time and see where the good stuff can go, that is why I could not succeed in this case. (TED, 2017)

But I have also successful experience that I manage my time by setting goals. I had to ready for a class with reading and researching in a month. Usually, students can not finish all preparation before starting class because it has a voluminous amount of documents. But I finished all preparation before starting the class and could join discussions actively. I set a priority in which section I am interested in and I spent much time on those and reducing time for researching unimportant content. That is why I succeed to achieve my final goal that joining discussions actively and receiving a high evaluation in the class.

Then, why does effective goal-setting help us achieve goals? What are the characteristics of good goals? Setting effective goals requires recognizing what we need to achieve goals, deciding how to get what we need, as I mentioned at the beginning. Look at the whole of our required effort and time and analyze strategically. It leads to getting these with minimal time and toils. (n.d., 2015) 

In conclusion, setting goals is an important strategy to manage our time and succeed in college life. effective goals are set by looking at the whole of our required effort and time and analyzing strategically.  It helps us to achieve our goals with minimal time and toils.
